Founded in Shiraz in the mid-1990s by the Korshidian and Haghnegahdar families, Modam became

involved in the production of contemporary rugs in 1995. Today their main office is in Hamburg,
Germany, but the firm also retainspremises in Shiraz.Over two thousand weavers are employed in
the company’s workshops in Iran. Most are nomadic and former nomadic women from the tribes
of the Fars region of southwestern Iran, who have a high level of traditional carpetmaking skills
and experience.Modam’s weavers enjoy a great degree of artistic freedom, both with the colours they
use and their personal interpretation of the designs. This is due to the company’s firmly held belief that
if an element of spontaneity is introduced into the production process it will generate an unforeseen yet
appealing aesthetic. The high skill level of Modam’s weavers and dyers allows the firm’s designers to
develop almost any type and style of carpet, using handspun local wool and indigenous natural dyes
(except for a small amount of imported indigo),which are processed in their own dyeing and cleaning
plants.Traditional designs can therefore be reproduced in a variety of sizes, depending on the
customers’specifications.Modam copes with an increasing international demand for its production by
employing newweavers and purchasing the best quality gabbehs and rugs available in the Iranian market.
The company’s new collection of Iranian Zielglers,Dena, is proving very popular.
